Phuket Bird Park
Located in Chalong, the privately owned bird park has over 1,000 birds with more than 100 species from Asia, Africa and South America. The birds nestle in tropical gardens with a natural waterfall which is very close to their natural habitat. Visitors can also experience bird shows on a large stage that take place three times a day. Phuket Mining Museum
This THB 180 million attraction in Kathu showcases Phuket's tin mining history and the lives of the Chinese miners that settled here during the thriving era. There are indoor and outdoor displays including an abandoned mine with rail cars and other machinery. The Sino-Portuguese style indoors shows the workers panning for tin and going about other aspects of daily life, with displays in both English and Thai.

Sarasin Bridge Promenade
Construction is now complete at Sarasin Bridge which connects Phuket to the mainland of Southern Thailand. The bridge was closed while it was reinforced and raised to allow more yachts to sail past. At the same time builders created a pedestrian bridge alongside the main structure named Srisoonthorn Bridge. This allows visitors to walk across, enjoy the views and stop to relax in the gazebo style rotundas.

Aphrodite Cabaret Show
A brand new transgender cabaret show has arrived in Phuket, located opposite the large Tesco-Lotus store on the by-pass road. This is the second high quality ladyboy cabaret of its kind to open on the island, with some 80 performers that dance traditional Thai, East Asian and Indian styles and sing to western favourites such as Lady Gaga, Cheeky Girls and classic Gloria Gaynor song 'I will survive'. The new theatre seats 950 guests and has the latest technology lighting and sound for a professional show. Tickets are THB 700 for regular seats and THB 800 for VIPs, there are three shows each night 6.00pm, 7.45pm and 9.30pm.

Siam Niramit Phuket
The grand opening of Siam Niramit, an amazing theatre and cultural show took place on December 22, 2011. The impressive show which has been a success in Bangkok for many years has arrived in Phuket which attracts both Thai and foreign audiences with an artistic cultural performance reflecting the four regions of Thailand. In addition to the magnificent theatre, there is a restaurant, Thai village, floating market and souvenir shop.

Flying Hanuman
Set in the Kathu countryside near the waterfall is a brand new adventure park Flying Hanuman with zip lines, sky bridges, abseiling, a nature trail and more. The 50 rai development was built without cutting down any trees, and has 28 platforms around the exciting course. Flying Hanuman jungle adventure park takes around 3 hours to complete and features some fast zip lines up to 60 km per hour and also has a long 400 metre zip line.

Danze Fantasy - Genesis Magic Show
A new 550 seat theatre opened in December 2011 on Bangla Road in Patong where the acrobatic and magic show Genesis is performed nightly. The show stars Swedish illusionist Joe Labero with performers from Australia, the US, Sweden, Russia and more. The three level theatre Danze Fantasy cost THB50 million to build and shows Genesis twice a night 7.30pm and 9.30pm. At 11pm the theatre changes to a 300 seat live music venue called Rock Star. Xtremaventures
A new adventure park in Chalong provides active entertainment never seen before in Phuket, a great day out for all the family. Xtremaventures is based on the European rope and tree climbing adventure parks such as Aventure Parc in France, and challenges visitors with courses similar to military style training but in a fun atmosphere. Hang in trees, climb a tree trunk, balance on rope bridges and jump on flying boxes...

Paragliding
Andaman Horizon has introduced an exciting new activity to Phuket. Paragliding is an exhilarating adventure, as well as a unique way to see the stunning scenery this picturesque island has to offer. This seafood restaurant in Rawai was originally a traditional Thai wooden house that has been renovated to the fresh, clean, contemporary dining venue it is today. There is a large outdoor terrace and tapas bar all spruced up with white and blue paint that perfectly suits its fresh seafood theme. Phuket's newest Wine Connection restaurant is now open at Kata Night Plaza and introduces the company's first bar and grill concept. The large venue has two storeys with a wine shop and large dining areas including outdoor terrace and indoor seating, ideal for large groups. There is an open grill station and a bar with a wide selection of beers on draft. The menu includes Thai and international dishes.

The latest beach club to open in Phuket is Xana, located in Angsana Laguna Phuket, Bang Tao. Promoted as the only real beach club on the island, Xana is an entertainment led venue that offers gorgeous surroundings, delicious cuisine and tasty drinks as well as cool tunes that get the party crowd going in the evenings. Sri panwa, the luxury pool villa resort at Cape Panwa, has opened Baba Nest, a new roof top lounge offering gorgeous 360 degree views across Phuket and surrounding islands. Urban Food
One of the latest restaurants to open at the Central Festival shopping centre is Urban Food, located outside next to Zen. The restaurant serves Asian and International food, both indoors and on the terrace. The restaurant has an expansive menu covering a wide variety of dishes, there are so many in fact, that it can be difficult to navigate the pages! A highlight is the buffet salad bar.

Gitano Restaurant & Love
A second Gitano restaurant opened in October 2011, about 1km east of the Heroines Monument, towards Ao Po and Paklok. The funky bright colours and artwork make this a fun and refreshing place to dine that welcomes children to play in the kids playroom. The menu is original with Thai fusion, Thai-Mexican and also includes some home baked food. Upstairs the space is often used to host international artists that teach art skills to children and adults, but it can also be used to host private parties.

Brasserie Phuket
This fine dining restaurant in Phuket Town has an international menu with an oyster and lobster bar. The Belgian owner has ensured there is a wide selection of international beers including 30 from this home country, as well as wines to be enjoyed in the bar lounge area. The mediterranean style decoration is warm and cosy, with indoor and outdoor dining areas that can cater to parties on request. The separate bar area has modern ultra violet lighting and bar stools for a social atmosphere.

Watermark Patisserie (Laguna)
The first Watermark restaurant opened in Phuket 12 years ago, since then they have expanded and introduced a new brand Watermark Patisserie with new branches opening across the island. The most recent to open is located at the entrance to the Laguna resort. The Patisserie has an all day menu with pastas, sandwiches, salads and more. The bakery cooks fresh bread daily with a fine selection of homemade cakes, pasties and chocolates. The modern restaurant has floor to ceiling glass windows and classic interiors with quality wooden flooring and furnishings. Open daily from 07.00 to 18.00.

The Color Kata
A new hotel to open in Kata adds a splash of colour to your holiday. The Color Kata is located on Kate Kwan Road opposite Sawasdee Village and offers 24 rooms each decorated with a unique colour theme with a designer touch. The interior and exterior design and colours are said to represent the glorious past with influence from the Old Town and present day Phuket. The Sino Portuguese building has the Color Cafe and free Wi-Fi Internet throughout.

This recently opened hotel in Patong is a first for Phuket, offering 67 uniquely decorated rooms by 11 renowned Thai artists. Phuket's second Holiday Inn opened in Mai Khao in September, the first being the popular Patong branch. Located at Mai Khao Beach, the resort has 245 rooms and 34 suites and is located near the existing high-end hotels in the area JW Marriott and Anantara. All rooms have Wi-Fi Internet access, flat-screen TVs with international satellite channels. Guests can enjoy the facilities such as the fitness centre, swimming pool, Tea Tree Spa, two restaurants and kids club. There are also five meeting rooms and a large function room for events.

Fun Start
A brand new family sports and leisure club has opened in Kathu, with a wide range of facilities for sports, fun and learning. The centre features martial arts gym, golfing school and SwimStart swimming club where babies and children of all ages can join a swimming class. For fun activities, there is a teen club where they can skateboard, trampoline, play in the arcade with electronic games, a pool table and fusball. Children can take part in cooking classes, a birthday club and 'little rascals' play centre. Summer camps and English lessons are also available.

Kajonkiet International School
Kanjonkiet School has been established in Phuket since 1954, and teaches the Thai curriculum and bilingual courses to 2,000 students. This year has seen the opening of its new school in Kathu, catering to the international community. The school with exclusively teach an English programme on their new campus which has indoor and outdoor learning areas with sports and recreation facilities. The international school accepts students from early years to year 6 and teaches the British curriculum. Kajonkiet is also currently a Cambridge Examination Centre for the IGCSE qualifications.

Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Club
Located at the Phuket International Academy, this new sports and leisure club provides world-class facilities making a range of activities available to the local community as well as the academy students. The club has academies for a range of sports including football, tennis, aquatics and rugby. The club can also cater to the MICE market with team building, corporate events, and other special events such as themed parties. There are art classes and a cool kids campus with lots of supervised fun activities for children. This club is located in the far north of the island, and well worth a visit.

Tesco Lotus Thalang
The second largest Tesco Lotus store opened early October in Thalang serving the north of the island. The new superstore is set on 44 rai of land and has the capacity to welcome 35,000 customers per day. The store is 17,000 sqm and the food court alone has 28 vendors. Within the complex there are an additional 99 outlets with restaurants, fast food, clothing stores, pharmacies, opticians, banks and much more. The new store is built to serve the local community and foreign tourists.
